Whole30 Day 17

So I dropped my protein down to about 30% and my fat down to about 33% and have cut my calories back by a couple of hundred, and I am actually losing weight for the first time since I started Whole30.

One thing I changed was the habit of using liberal fats to cook with. I steam veggies in water or saute in a little olive oil (as little as possible). And I stopped eating as much protein. I was using my minimum protein requirement as a starting point, and eating more if I felt hungry, and while that might work for some people, my satiety gauge is messed up. I kid you not when I say I can eat an entire chicken in one sitting--I don't have the ability to stop eating fat or protein when I have had a reasonable amount. So, I am trying to stick to under 115 grams which is one gram per pound of my lean body weight.

The interesting thing to me is that I have been eating a ton of fruit--raspberries, strawberries, plums, oranges, etc. I'm trying to keep it to low to medium glycemic fruits.

I gave up canned coconut milk because of the calories, and have started to drink "non dairy" coconut creamer (this is not ideal, as they put things in it that are not exactly natural). However, I need something for my coffee, and this is non-dairy and low calorie. I can't stomach it black just yet, but I'm getting there. If I re-introduce dairy after Whole 30, I will probably limit it to cream and butter, and occasional cheese.

Also, on that topic, Whole30 has done nothing (so far) to improve my acne. If anything it is worse. I'm trying to set up an appointment with a hormonal specialist to see what they might have to say about it. Apparently it can be a sign of thyroid problems, and 1 in 4 people who have LS have thyroid disease. I do seem to have most of the symptoms of a hypothyroid disorder...

But I am losing weight suddenly, so maybe I am just being a hypocondriac...

  1. I lost 9 pounds so far just by making a few adjustments. I too measured my amounts of fat (instead of just pouring oil on salads) I also measured my amounts of protein. Cutting out fruit, nuts, and coconut milk also helped. The only thing is now that I'm feeling better I'm slightly more active and so I do need a snack usually once a day (which is a few pieces of beef jerky)
    Good luck to you!!
