Hello again!

I realize I've been gone quite some time...I went to England for a few days toward the end of August, and when I came back life just sort of filled up with other things, and so I have neglected my blog. But I am back now!

As you know, I have been struggling with food since I went to the nutritionist and started the LEAP protocol. What I discovered on my trip was that it was well nigh impossible to follow the protocol while traveling and still manage to stay within my budget. I did my best, but ended up spending more than I felt comfortable with, and had to just let the rules go on some days. It would have been much easier to just eat "Paleo" but I was trying very hard to avoid foods I am reactive to. This means avoiding chicken and pork, shrimp and salmon, anything with yeast in it. Coffee, chocolate, and chilis. Pretty much everything on the plane and in the restaurants we visited had one of the above in it. I did go to the grocery store in the UK several times and found things I could eat and carry around with me for the day, but we had no refrigerator in our room, so it was a daily struggle to find foods I could eat.

Since I got back from my trip I have been trying with varying degrees of success to get back to where I was. I admit, over vacation some things snuck in that shouldn't have. Wine, coffee, grains, and chocolate. So I am back to the beginning. In addition, I am trying to eat a low glycemic diet as per my doctor's request, and I am leaving out certain things due to my level of reaction to them. As of yesterday, I came up with a menu for this week that while not completely paleo is certainly close and is low glycemic as well...

Breakfast this morning:

Lean beef hamburger patty, 1 organic sliced roma tomato.

Lunch will be lentil soup with Turkey sausage (can't seem to find beef sausage anywhere!) and I have snacks of pistachio nuts, and Greek olives. Dinner is going to be grilled steak with broccoli and mozzarella and tomato salad.

I am starting to rotate my foods tomorrow, so need to only eat certain food groups on certain days. I am avoiding fruit for at least the next couple of weeks, but will add in low glycemic ones after that. I am following the recommendations of the South Beach Diet for my low glycemic diet, but still sticking to Paleo as much as possible. I am eating some beans and legumes here and there for budgetary purposes (I don't appear to have a reaction to them, and always take an enzyme pill before I eat them as my nutritionist suggested.) So far, lentils seem to be OK, and certain kinds of hummus, and canellini beans. But still no grains, no other legumes, certainly no processed foods. I might try quinoa at some point later on as well and maybe wild rice, but I'm going to avoid white rice, potatoes, grains, and sweet potatoes.
