The research is lacking?

I keep reading these articles (there is like one every day now) saying that the science behind the Paleo diet is lacking, and that there are no studies to support a "paleolithic" or hunter gatherer-style diet. This is simply not true--people have been researching the diet of hunter-gathers for years and quite a lot of studies have been done that indicate it is a much healthier alternative to the standard American diet. Here are a few of them:

Even short-term consumption of a paleolithic type diet improves BP and glucose tolerance, decreases insulin secretion, increases insulin sensitivity and improves lipid profiles without weight loss in healthy sedentary humans.

A meta-analysis of prospective epidemiologic studies showed that there is no significant evidence for concluding that dietary saturated fat is associated with an increased risk of CHD or CVD.

Over a 3-month study period, a Paleolithic diet improved glycemic control and several cardiovascular risk factors compared to a Diabetes diet in patients with type 2 diabetes.

If you are actually interested in the research, and want to see the studies that the Paleo diet is based on check out Dr. Cordain's blog or Paleo for Life

Better yet, read a book--I recommend Robb Wolf's. Easy (and fun) to read for those who are maybe more interested in what Paleo can do for you...
