Last week's budget

So my budget goal for last week for food was $150.00. I actually spent $176.20. I came in a little over budget, but not so over budget that I feel bad about it. However, our bank balance is still going down, so this week I need to keep good track of things and use what I have in my menus so that I don't go crazy with the spending.

Ultimately, I want to work out a budget that will not go over $100.00 per week. One of the things I have done that I believe will help is buy a membership at CostCo. Of course, day one I spent $183.00...but a large part of that was for items that will last far beyond this week. I bought a tub of roasted almonds, and a bag of pistacios, and a large container of macadamia nuts. I bought a large bag of coffee, 10 pounds of organic chicken breast, and a bunch of non-organic veggies that were on the "good" list. I also picked up a tub of organic spinach, and 6 cans of Thai Kitchen Coconut milk, and 12 cans of organic tomato paste. Some of what I got will continue to feed us for probably over a month. I will continue to buy my organic salad greens and organic spinach at Costco. Avocados and tomatoes are much cheaper there than anywhere else.

So, I have high hopes that this will help me stick to my budget in the coming weeks.

  1. Hi Sara. Well done on coming in near your goal budget. You got a ton of good store cupboard items for your money anyway.

Most of my money goes on food - and it's far too much. I see no way of remedying it though.

The Bear is a freegan. But it's no use to me because mainly what you find in the supermarket bins is BREAD. It's so difficult to leave it when it's free!
