Or $50.00 a week, depending on how it turns out.
I find it best when starting a challenge of any kind to review the rules:
I will be eating moderately strict Paleo for the next 30 days. Moderately strict means that I will have a tablespoon of organic half and half in my coffee each morning, and I will be cooking with butter and olive oil. It also means that three times a week, I will have "open" meals which may or may not be Paleo. I take the idea of the open meals from Loren Cordain's book, The Paleo Diet.
Rule number 1: Try not to spend over $5 per day on food
Rule number 2: Eat organic and grass fed or free range as much as is possible
Rule number 3: Keep track of nutritional elements (like protein, calories, etc.) and log them each day.
That's it. Just three rules. More than that would be complicated.
:)
Here is what I ate today:
Coffee with cream .82
My cousin invited me for dinner, so I skipped breakfast and lunch. I find it helpful to IF on days I visit relatives so that I can eat what they offer me without too much concern of consuming too many calories...as it was, I filled up on pork roast, mushroom gravy with lots of mushrooms in it, spinach with butter and baked potato. And a martini. My entire meal was about 1800 calories, so not too bad. It was pretty good paleo fare. I will eat potatoes on occasion, and I do use butter regularly. The martini was pure decadence. :)
The best part is, it was all free!
and not easy ones. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteGood luck from me too.
ReplyDeleteI actually have never read "The Paleo Diet". What are Open Meals? And thanks for keeping us updated on eating Paleo cheaply.
ReplyDeleteHi Michael!
ReplyDeleteIn the Paleo Diet, Cordain suggests if you are starting out Paleo to allow yourself 3 free meals each week. I suppose the idea is to get you into the paleo habit without causing too much pain and suffering. He suggests three approaches. Level one, with three "open" meals per week. Level two, with two "open" meals per week, and Level one: cold turkey no open meals, paleo all the way. I am following level one because I have an extremely hard time with strict Paleo all the time. My family isn't paleo, nor are the people I work with, and I get really tired of having to explain that beans, corn, potatoes, peanuts while they are vegetables are generally not eaten on a paleo diet. Plus, I do like chocolate once in a while. So, I do open meals when faced with a situation when I may have to eat non-paleo foods. It certainly is not necessary, but it makes the transition easier for some people. I tend to IF on days I have open meals...
Very cool! Looking forward to following along with your challenge.
