Duck eggs

OK, so I am going to count my Primal Challenge starting from Sept. 1st, but for record keeping, today is day four, and this week is the first real week of the challenge.

Starting this week, I have eaten pretty well. Not counting the ice cream and Potato gratin from last night, I have been eating perfectly in fact...

Challenge #1 eat lots of plants and animals:

Check!

This morning I had a scrambled farmer's market duck egg cooked in butter. It tastes a great deal like duck. I don't really think of chicken eggs tasting like chicken, but I'm going to have to think about that next time I have one. Growing up on the farm, we ate duck eggs and chicken eggs pretty regularly, but now that I am grown and foraging for my own food, it just seems a lot more interesting...

Meals for today:
Breakfast:
1 duck egg cooked in butter .66
2 Italian plums .32

Lunch:
1 apple .32
2 oz. walnuts .52

Dinner:
Zucchini and mushrooms sautéed in butter .70
10 oz. lean pork loin roast $1.25
1 avocado $1.19
1 tomato .41
Wine $1.24

Total $5.37

  1. Never had duck eggs. Do they taste the same?

  2. No. They taste slightly different. I don't quite know how to describe it. Duck eggs have more protein and fat than chicken eggs, so they have a slightly "richer" flavor and can overcook easily. They are slightly "tougher" than chicken eggs, but very good!

  3. I've never tasted duck eggs either. I never seem to see them on sale, and I don't know anyone who keeps ducks.
