Hello all--I got my computer back last week, but then went on a family camping trip over the weekend, so today is really the first day I have had time to post in quite a while.
Last time I posted I was keeping you updated on my Whole30 experiences. After 30 days of being "perfect" Paleo, my results were disappointing. During the first three weeks, I gained a couple of pounds, and continued to break out. By week four I was unhappy and pretty miserable--but fortunately this happened to coincide with an appointment with my new doctor!
My new doctor is great! She is a naturopath with a background in clinical pharmacology. For our first appointment, she talked with me for over an hour and wrote out a very detailed medical history based on a series of questions that she asked me. She also recommended a nutritionist who specializes in patients with autoimmune and other difficult to treat diseases. My nutritionist uses the Mediator Release Test(MRT) to pinpoint my food sensitivities, and she will work with me and my doctor to figure out the best way to proceed. The MRT should tell me which foods affect my immune response. She seems very optimistic about this process helping me. I am also cautiously excited about it.
In the meantime, I am still eating very carefully. Other than a couple of camping incidents, I have been very good. As long as I keep my protein and calories low, and eat a lot of fruit and veggies, I seems to be able to lose weight. Percentage of fat really doesn't seem to have much impact on anything...
