So today is my follow up appointment with my nutitionist to discuss the results of my test and to come up with a dietary plan! I'm really excited about this part. I will find out which foods I must avoid and come up with menus for the next few weeks. I will definitely have more informatiion later today. I can't help but feel good about this meeting--someone is finally recognizing that foods can affect the way I feel, and give me some specific advice regarding what to do. Following the paleo way is great, but it is a little like shooting in the dark since you don't know exactly what foods give you problems. For example some people can eat dairy with no problem, some people can eat nightshades with no problem. Some people lose weight without really trying once they switch to the healthier Paleo/Primal diet. For me, none of that has happened. There are moments when my LS symptoms get better--but I can't point at anything in particular that makes it better or worse. My acne seems to do what it wants completely independantly of what I am eating/drinking. Other issues I have come and go randomly. So this test will give me a baseline that I can build off of, and that is very exciting for me. Also part of the LEAP(Lifestyle Eating And Performance) program is learning how to rotate your foods so as to avoid food intolerance over time, and to heal "leaky gut."
I will post more on this over the weekend I imagine as I am trying ot figure out what I can eat...
Sara,
ReplyDeleteI'm really interested to see your results. I also have a hard time distinguishing what foods cause flare ups for me. I've added in tomatoes, nuts and fruits again, and haven't really noticed anything different. I may have a headache but I can't tell if it's linked to food or not. For now I'm just eating paleo, not necessarily AI paleo. I'm going to work with Chris Kresser and I hope he can help me fine tune my paleo diet.
Best of luck to you! Please share your 2 week plan :)
Amanda
The LEAP/Mediator Release Testing program works very well at identifying food triggers for conditions like migraine, IBS, fibromyalgia, eczema etc. Everyone's immune system is unique to them, so one man's meat can definitely be another man's poison. Food sensitivities are hard to figure out with a food diary because most people have multiple food sensitivities and you can react 72 hours later. They are also dose dependent which means that a small amount of a food may be ok but a larger amount could be problematic. Or, eating a food once in a while might be fine, but eating the same food 3 days in a row could trigger a reaction as well. The Mediator Release Blood test helps "unravel" the confusion by giving you a list of safe foods from which to choose, while giving your immune system time to "calm down." I am a dietitian and have worked with this program for 6 years and can't say enough good about it. I've seen hundreds of people get their life and health back without the use of drugs or supplements. Best wishes to you Sara!

Thank you Amanda! I think that is great that you are going to work with Chris Kresser, he seems really well educated about all the issues that affect food sensitivity, leaky gut and autoimmune disease. I really enjoyed the interviews he did with Stephan Guyenet and think he will really take the time to listen to you.
ReplyDeleteSusan--
ReplyDeleteThat is so great to hear! I admit that I am a little worried it won't work for me, but I have a lot of faith in my nutritionist. Not only does she recommend this test, but she has been through it herself so she really understands and offers excellent support and advice.
This sounds promising, Sara. I'd be interested in your results. Good luck!
