Meals, Day Twenty-Seven

Breakfast was steak (2.5 ounces) and two pastured eggs cooked in 1 T. butter with some leftover sweet potato (1/4 cup) and coffee with a T. of cream.

Lunch was a HUGE salad with steak, avocado, cabbage, arugula, a little grated carrot, and some tomatoes, dressed in olive oil and balsamic vinegar, with 1/2 cup raspberries.

Dinner (which is unfortunately not pictured), was rib eye steak with broccolini, and a small side salad with ranch dressing. I also had a small sliver of raspberry tart with whipped cream. (About 1 ounce of tart, and 1/4 cup whipped cream.)

The past 2-3 weeks have been a bit of a challenge with vacation and my family meals, and not making much progress with the Ketogenic diet. I have been gaining weight pretty steadily, which suggests to me that the Ketogenic Diet isn't working the way it should be according to Lyle MacDonald's book. There were a couple of days where my carbs were higher than average, but not high enough to expain the steady weight gain. I have decided to take another look at my ratios, and try switching thins around a bit for the next three weeks.

If I follow a low carbohydrate ketogenic diet, but don't worry so much about adding all that extra fat in, and keep my protein down to about 100-120, I might have better success.

My weight dipped about two pounds when I started this, but has steadily been rising since then--possibly due to the carbs, but I think it is a combination of the fat and carbs. I am going to adjust my carbs to 10 per meal, my protein to 30-40 per meal, and my fat to 30-40 per meal.

Observations during this past week:

Walking does not help me lose weight, in fact I have steadily gained over the past 10 days, and my calorie intake did not vary. The only difference was the walking and the carbs. I drank alcohol quite a bit when on vacation, but not so much since I returned home--not drinking does not seem to encourage weight loss.

Changes for the coming week:

I will be following a ketogenic (30 grams of carbs a day) diet with moderate protein instead of high protein. Fat will be around 60% of my diet which is a bit less than before. I will focus on good quality meats, seafood, and veggies, and pastured dairy.
