Meals, Day Twenty-Six

Breakfast was yummy Aidell's organic nitrate free garlic chicken sausage with 2 scrambled eggs, leftover sweet potato, mushrooms, and some fresh organic tomatoes.

Lunch was a leftover chicken leg, leftover sauteed kale, and some sweet potato.

Dinner unfortunately I have no picture of. I went over to my cousin's for dinner, and had Caesar salad (no croutons) with shrimp and avocado, an awesome martini with two olives that my uncle made, several corn chips with salsa and quacamole and two bites of a piece of blackberry pie with a couple of tablespoons of vanilla ice cream. I also had wine, coffee and after dinner chocolates and toffee. Note that a lot of my meal was not Paleo...And yet somehow after managing to gain two pounds while in Portland eating pretty clean and walking every day, I was down almost a pound this morning.

Don't be surprised if the next few days are not completely "on" for the experiment--my aunt was just diagnosed with a brain tumor and is going to be here for a couple of weeks while they operate--I may have to put the experiment on hold since much of the food I consume will be at my cousin's or out and about, and not easy to control. I'll report back as things evolve...I'm trying to keep in mind that life is short and I should enjoy it as much as possible and not let something like this experiment, or Paleo living in general become more important than spending time with my family. I have to try extremely hard to do both, because they are not paleo and if I spend time around them I will invariably not be able to eat as clean as I would like. I don't want my cousin worrying about what to feed me on top of everything else she is worrying about right now. I can always bring my own food, but on some level I think that hurts their feelings. Hospitality is a huge thing with my family--some of you might understand that. There is a certain dynamic there does not allow for too much variation without consequences. The most important thing right now is to help them through this difficult time, by being there for and with them.
