Musings on an over-busy schedule...

I haven't had a lot of time to write lately. To be honest, it is killing me.

I have a lot of really interesting topics I want to research and explore, but not enough time to do it. The fact is that my day is pretty much taken up by commuting to work and back, working, cooking, cleaning, and walking. I have about 40 minutes in the morning to update my blog, and it takes me that long to organize my thoughts, no chance of writing about them as well...

Sadly, there doesn't really appear to be anything I can give up in order to make more time. I think I may have to schedule in one day a week where I skip something in order to write. Like maybe not walking on Wednesday but replacing it with writing time...that might work.

Or maybe I can research and write while I walk one day per week...

Sometimes I wish that I could work at home so that I didn't have to waste an hour a day commuting. Plus, I could do part of my job while walking on the treadmill--now that would be a cool use of time! Perhaps we should re-work the modern work environment to best satisfy our actual physical needs, like exercise and stress relief. We have the technology, we just need to use it to re-create a better world of work.

What is your favorite time-budget trick?

  1. Hi Sara. My life is practically empty so I don't have any problems with time. Yet I still barely ever get anything done.

I don't know what the answer is for you, but I certainly wouldn't give up walking for writing. I find walking is very useful for putting ones thoughts in order though.

  2. How to find time for everything? The elusive work/life balance. It's a very real problem and one that is hard to find answers for. Something always has to give, one simply can't do it all! In my case the answer was drastic: I stopped working! One day I realised that if if I was brave enough to cash up all my assets I would have enough to live on for an indefinite period. Not everyone is lucky enough to be able to do this, I am well aware, and I am a lot older than you. I don't know how to advise you - as you say, if you could work at home that would be one way of getting more time for yourself. Good luck.
