Instead of doing menus all at once this week, I think I am going to just share what I am eating each day. Yesterday I had this for brunch. It was three eggs scrambled with some leftover taco salad meat. Dinner was steak and salad with brussels sprouts. Today, breakfast was two scrambled eggs with bacon. I could have had leftover steak, but I am saving that for lunch for tomorrow--I am not sure what I am making for dinner tonight. I need to use up some vegetables in the fridge, so maybe eggplant parmesan (minus the parmesan since I don't have any...)
The budget for this week is pretty much shot, so I am going to attempt to eat what we have without spending too much more...
Now for the budget confession--and the diet confession...We overspent this past weekend, because I wanted to go see the new "Robin Hood" movie, and we ended up going out to dinner first. Dinner was completely non-Paleo and yummy. The movie was...
Well, truthfully, a little disappointing.
I am a bit of a Robin Hood geek. I have read every book (fiction and non-fiction) about Robin Hood I could get my hands on since I was about 6. I have seen all the movies, all the TV shows, I have been, in a word, obsessed with Robin Hood my entire life. So, a few years back when they started work on this film, I was pretty excited. Originally the title was supposed to be "Nottingham" and it was supposed to be about the sheriff of Nottingham. One of my favorite books about the Robin Hood legend is the novel by Richard Kluger, "The Sheriff of Nottingham." Reading the description of the original script they were using for this film, it reminded me of that book.
I wanted something clever and different, and it just didn't live up to my expectations. I know the film went through a lot, but the end result was unfortunately a little anticlimactic.
AND it really annoys me when they get history wrong--aren't they supposed to have advisors who tell them when they make a huge historical error? King Richard didn't die on his way back from the Crusades people!! He died in 1199, five years after his brief return to England. They portrayed his death accurately, they just left out a critical part of the timeline...
Anyway, don't mind me, I'm just (as I said) something of a Robin Hood geek...
But this isn't a movie review, this is my overall impression of a film that was surprisingly not typical. It wasn't an over-the-top Hollywood blockbuster, and the fact that it was a prequel to the legend of Robin Hood, made it cool in another way altogether. First of all, I think pretty much anything with Russell Crowe is definitely worth watching, I think he truly rocks. And thankfully the rest of the movie was well cast. Thank god they didn't do something stupid and ruin it by putting some current popular lead in the role who couldn't pull off Robin Hood if his life depended on it. Instead we have a nicely international cast with some excellent decisions. Mark Addy as Friar Tuck!
So all in all, good film, with some issues if you are a perfectionist...
Russell Crowe is always interesting. The movie has had mixed reviews, good to get your take on it! Glad you enjoyed your meal out! It's very necessary to have treats like that from time to time.
ReplyDeleteI too have periods when I need to save money by making myself use what's in the cupboards, the fridge, the garden and the freezer. It makes for creativity!
Hi Sara. I haven't heard of this movie, but I love Russell Crowe! But then, who doesn't?! I'll look out for it.
ReplyDeleteNecessity is the mother of invention so they say. And I think your meals are looking pretty interesting.
